What is Mobile Number Portability?

Mobile number portability (MNP) enables mobile telephone users to retain their mobile telephone numbers when changing from one mobile network operator to another.

Mobile number portability in India launched on 20th Jan 2011.

How to change your mobile operator?

1. Send a SMS to 1900 in following format:

PORT (Your Mobile Number)
e.g. PORT 9999999999

2. You will get a SMS reply that contains a unique porting code.

3. SMS to the preferred operator quoting the unique code. This code is valid only for a few days, and one must apply again if it expires.

4. Your existing operator will check with new operator & if there are no dues then approval will be given for porting.

5. You will get a SMS on the time & date when porting will take place. Rules mandate that process be completed within 4 days of applying.

6. After porting is complete, wait for a SMS from your new operator confirming the switch. Your phone may be dead for about 2 hours when the porting takes place.

Procedure For Using Number Portability Service All Networks started

Friend for changing the MOBILE NETWORK OPERATOR without changing your Mobile Number we have to follow these steps

1.Send PORT to 1900.This message is chargeable.

2.Now you'll soon receive a PIN CODE.
(NOTE :The validity of this PIN CODE is only 15 days)

3.We have to give this PIN CODE to the nearest customer care centre of the network operator to which we want to change.

4.We have to submit the ID PROOF that we had submitted earlier at the time of taking that old sim

5.We have to pay a nominal fees of 19 Rupees for using this service

6.Now we'll get a new FRESH SIM of the NEW OPERATOR

Mobile Number Portability: How to Port Mobile Number in India, Charges & Other Details
starting from 20th jan 2011
*.Send an SMS: PORTMobile Number (that is to be ported) to 1900
For ex. PORT 9849012345.
*.Your existing operator will immediately provide you with a 8digit alpha-numeric porting code that you need to submit to the operator you wish to opt to along with relevant documents. (The unique porting code will be valid only for 24 hours)

*.After consulting with your existing operator, new operator will move your number in a maximum of 4 days.

Charges for Porting Mobile Number:
As per TRAI, any telecom operator can charge a maximum of Rs. 19 towards porting charges.
*Any customer having a mobile number older than 90 days can migrate to another operator with the same number. He/She will have to wait for another 90 days before being able to port their number again.
*a number will remain dead for 2 hours approximately during the porting process. Fortunately, the2 hours downtime will be between 10 PM and 5 AM IST.
